Island Time all the Time: Cuba Libre Collection from Goorin Bros.

Cuba Libre Goorin

I’ve never been to Cuba. I had a friend once living in Guatemala that said, “Come down here, then we’ll fly across to Cuba so you can avoid any interference from the US Government.” I almost did it, but alas, my toes have never dug into Cuban dirt. I had a lawyer friend at the time that strongly urged me to not see this idea through. But, dammit, the allure of the largest island in the Caribbean remains. It doesn’thelp that i have this slightly warped vision of what Cuba is like: Stuck in the past, killer old cars driving around everywhere, the sounds of flamenco and Buena Vista Social Club just coming from everywhere… (I can be idealistic, right? Or is this just ignorance?)

Friday Five || 5 Things I Want From the J.Crew August 2013 Style Guide

J.Crew August 2013 Style Guide

I don’t think I’ve circled anything in a catalog since I was 8 and looking through Toys ‘R’ Us inserts in the Sunday paper around Christmas. Yet, when I was at the Grove this week to drop off some shorts for alterations (5″ inseam or bust), I swooped the latest style guide from everyone’s favorite (or most revered yet always shopped) brand, J.Crew. Ever since they put in the new men’s store, I’ve been a more frequent visitor, if just to have convos with the well-mannered gents and ladies that run the space.

California Giveaway: The Est. 1850 Collection from Johnston & Murphy

Johnston & Murphy and The Momentum have been friends for a bit, now. I remember back in the day, flying out to Nashville to see their operation first-hand. That was a long time ago… when I was a young man. Now, I’m a little older. A little wiser. I’ve moved about the country a tad. Finally landing in California.

But with age comes appreciation for classic and timeless styles. There will always be room in the closet for a neon-soled McNairy shoe, but for the everyday, Johnston & Murphy plays the part perfectly for those time-honored silhouettes. A few of my fave from their new 1850 Collection are below.

And after the pictures? The giveaway details… Continue Reading

Spreading cheer: The Hill-Side & Co. X Gitman Holiday Shirt Collection

Really diggin this collaboration from the Hill-Side & Co. and Gitman. Just in time for the holidays, these two companies have come together with a set of amazing designs. Personally, I’m all over the woodland camo and starburst dots. The collection will debut today (11/30/2012) at the Hickoree’s booth at the Pop Up Flea, running through the end of this weekend in NYC.  BUUUUT if you’re not one of the lucky ducks that get to go to such an event, no worries. This collection will be made readily available on Hickoree’s, Context, Need Supply, and Unionmade early next week.

Johnston and Murphy presents: Caption the Uncomfortable

Running the Momentum has been pretty great in terms of meeting some great people and working with some really amazing brands. It has put a face on companies where there wasn’t one before. Especially when that company is as iconic and established as Johnston and Murphy.

I’ve worked with J&M on multiple occasions, even so far as to visit their HQ outside of Nashville. Last week, I was informed of their new Caption the Uncomfortable contest and am excited now to be a part. Here are the details:

Spotlight On: Bonobos

I’ve had the honor and privilege of watching Bonobos go from a seemingly unheard-of operation to a full-blown social media powerhouse and one stop shop for almost every style need I could think of. What started, for me, as a place to find nice-fitting pants, from patterned corduroys to slim chinos, has now turned into a regular haunt to find anything from shoes to sweater, from underwear to blazers. The team is second to none in terms of customer support and diligence. I’ve made many a friend internally, and during my 100 Days of Ties trip to NYC, I had the pleasure of sitting down and chatting face-to-face with founder, Andy Dunn.If you haven’t already, check out the shop and order something. The process will be smooth, and you will like the outcome. There’s a reason why they’ve been a regular feature on The Momentum.

Just wanted to throw a shout out their way to say thanks for everything over the years. It’s been a blast to watch y’all grow. And thanks for the latest addition to my wardrobe: The Mark McNairy Navy Camp Mocs, featured recently on the TAMS project.

A few highlights from their latest offerings below.

Bonobos Khaki Trench Coat

Bonobos Gingherbread Shirt

Bonobos Wolfgangs

Bonobos Handover

Bonobos Photosynthepants

… I know Bonobos is calling those last pairs the Photosynthepants, but I’m calling them Old Gregs based purely on color. If you get that reference, kudos.
