Spotlight On: Hedley & Bennett. Real Aprons for Real Chefs.

Hedley & Bennet HQ

It was a gray and dreary Saturday morning when I made my way to Downtown Los Angeles. It didn’t take too long to get their from Mid-City, but when the weather wants you to stay inside, everything takes an extra 15 mental minutes.

But heading to DTLA was well worth it. I had been invited by Ellen, owner of Hedley & Bennett the week prior at Northern grade to come check out the offices and sample sale. Continue reading

EDC: Los Angeles Daily

EDC

Did a little Everyday Carry on the Instant of Grams lately, and people seemed to like it. Well, I guess about 20 people did, but that’s cool. I liked it, and that’s sorta all that matters. I didn’t start The Momentum to make friends… except I ended up making a lot, which has been the best. So, I thought about my life since moving to LA and how I’ve simplified my living since being on the golden coast.
What follows is a little roundup of what I rarely leave the house without on a daily basis. Hope you dig.  Continue reading

Crocheted Beanie. Classic styling from Topo Designs.

topo_designs_beanie_black_detail

Topo never ceases to amaze me with their offerings. Starting from humble beginnings and wanting to merely pay homage to the classic lines of a decent backpack, the company is now a powerhouse in the outdoor industry. I couldn’t be prouder of Mark and Jedd. And yet again, they deliver a classic item done right.

The crocheted beanie.

A legend in plastic: Christian Hosoi for Penny Boards

Hosoi Penny Board

I am not a lifer on the Penny Board. I just got one. But I’m hooked worse than those kids in those meth ads. (too soon?) Anyway, it is a rush and quite addictive riding the cracked and ramped sidewalks of LA on a 22″ piece of speeding plastic.

And now… Hosoi is doing a board with Penny. And it’s awesome. Click on the still below to watch this awesome video filmed and edited by Ryan Spencer. And buy this board when it comes out in April 2013.

Kick. Push.

Kick. Push.

Spreading cheer: The Hill-Side & Co. X Gitman Holiday Shirt Collection

Really diggin this collaboration from the Hill-Side & Co. and Gitman. Just in time for the holidays, these two companies have come together with a set of amazing designs. Personally, I’m all over the woodland camo and starburst dots. The collection will debut today (11/30/2012) at the Hickoree’s booth at the Pop Up Flea, running through the end of this weekend in NYC.  BUUUUT if you’re not one of the lucky ducks that get to go to such an event, no worries. This collection will be made readily available on Hickoree’s, Context, Need Supply, and Unionmade early next week.

The Brawler From Nashville, TN, USA: Otis James.

It’s been a hot minute since I talked about my friend, Otis James. Life gets busy, ya know? And with my recent move to LA, I have been even more distracted than ever. Now, though, that I’m settling into my new surroundings and the apartment hunt is over and I’ve pretty much purged all my passable clothing and I have secured a gig with a new denim company, I can relax and start over.

The Camped Well Collection

The Camped Well Collection is a carefully curated selection of vintage camping gear and goods available at Camp Well. New offerings will be added often.

Recently added:

Camp Mugs

These are one of the most iconic mugs available and are well-suited for being around the campfire. They won’t melt, they clean easily, and they’re good for hot and cold liquids alike (from coffee to whisky on the rocks).

Camp mugs available now for only $8/set.

Cheers,

Camp Well: First Launch

Camp Well is open. Sort of. It’s fully functional. It’s stocked with some early items from Topo Designs, Gether Clothing, Wintercheck Factory, and Form Function Form. There are a few URL glitches I am working out, currently, but it’s being taken care of.

Products from Hella and Woodworks are on their way as well. Think slingshots and bandanas.

Thanks to those who made the opening day (May 31) a great one! Check out the store, let me know what you think, and I look forward to seeing you all around the (metaphoric and vicarious) campfire.
